Detectives have opened an investigation following the death of a man who was assaulted in Ballymena during the early hours of Saturday morning. Christopher Houston, known as Cricki, was discovered unconscious at the junction of Alexander Street and Broughshane Street on 19 September and subsequently passed away in hospital on 22 September.
The 42-year-old sustained a head injury during the assault, according to police statements. A suspect aged 39 was taken into custody on suspicion of grievous bodily harm on Saturday but was later released on bail pending further investigation.
This incident is part of a concerning pattern of fatal assaults across the UK. In July, a murder investigation was launched after Paul Mackin Jr, 44, died following a serious assault in north Belfast, while another fatal assault occurred at a bar in Ashton-under-Lyne in the same month.
