A 76-year-old man has entered not guilty pleas to a series of historical offences involving the alleged sexual abuse and rape of children as part of an organised grooming gang that operated across south Wales during the 1980s and 1990s.
Mohammed Ramzan, from Newport, is one of nine men charged in connection with Gwent Police's Operation Oak investigation into historical child sexual exploitation. The inquiry has identified eight victims and resulted in 41 charges across the nine defendants.
At Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, Ramzan denied one count of causing prostitution, two counts of rape, three counts of indecent assault and one count of aiding and abetting rape. Judge Lloyd-Clarke released him on conditional bail pending trial.
The case is scheduled for trial in January 2028. The nine men previously appeared together in court in July 2026, when they were initially granted bail and remanded to appear at Cardiff Crown Court for further proceedings.
What happens next?
Ramzan's trial is set to begin in January 2028. The conditions of his bail will remain in place until that date. The other eight men charged in the same investigation continue through the court process on their respective charges.
