A 21-year-old man died from catastrophic head injuries suffered during an alleged brawl at a rented party house south of Brisbane, and police say eight teenagers now face murder charges over his death. Investigators allege the group arrived at the gathering in Bahrs Scrub, a suburb of Logan, armed with weapons and carrying out a premeditated plan to cause harm.
The victim has been identified in media reports as Jongkuch Achieu, though one outlet has published his fuller name as Jongkuch Peter Kur Jongkuch Achieu, according to a national news outlet.
What happened at the party?
The violence unfolded at a short-term rental property on Discovery Boulevard in Bahrs Scrub on 26 July 2026, according to reporting on the incident. Detective Inspector Ian Galpin told reporters on Monday that a 21-year-old Redbank Plains man was found unconscious with head injuries at the scene, and he was rushed to hospital in a critical condition before dying six days later.
Galpin said the confrontation left several vehicles wrecked, caused extensive damage to the rented home and forced the closure of a street. He alleged the attackers had planned the assault in advance.
‘‘The police will allege that this group had a preconceived plan, which included arming themselves with various weapons before attending Bahrs Scrub with the common purpose of inflicting harm on persons at that address,’’ Det Galpin said.
The killing triggered a large-scale homicide investigation. Galpin said more than 80 police officers took part in executing 14 search warrants spread across three police districts as detectives worked to identify everyone involved.
Who has been charged?
Four teenagers — two aged 18 and two aged 19 — were the first to be charged with murder, on 6 August 2026. They have been identified as Joshua Jackson John Jirima, Kandour Khalil Tagelsir, Amnaud Nduwayo and Sunday Obol, according to a separate report, which also states that Obol faces a string of further charges, including deprivation of liberty, extortion, armed robbery and stalking.
A second wave of arrests followed on Sunday, when police located and charged another four suspects — a 17-year-old and three 18-year-olds — bringing the total number charged with murder to eight.
“Our investigations have continued, and [on Sunday] … we located an additional four persons at short-term accommodation in Morayfield, and those persons were also arrested and charged with murder,” Det Galpin said.
Police have also charged a ninth person, a 22-year-old, with failing to comply with an order to provide access to electronically stored data, according to a national broadcaster's report, which noted this charge is separate from the murder allegations against the eight teenagers.
Galpin cautioned that the investigation remains active and further arrests cannot be ruled out.
‘‘It is an ongoing investigation, so that is a possibility. If we identify more persons involved in this offence, then they will be charged.’’
How is the community responding?
Police liaison officers and local community leaders have been working together to head off any retaliatory violence following the killing. Galpin said residents he had spoken with were united in wanting calm restored to the area.
‘‘Everyone that we have spoken to, they want nothing but peace within their community, and that’s why I’m confident there won’t be any further retaliation,’’ Det Galpin said.
‘‘We’ll continue to support the community, and we’ll also continue to deliver our message that any form of violence will not be tolerated.’’
Galpin credited local residents with helping detectives build the case, describing the level of cooperation as exceptional.
‘‘If not for this cooperation, I don’t think we’d be in the position that we’re here in today and I think it highlights the importance of police working with the community and vice versa to solve these serious crimes.’’

The four teenagers arrested on Sunday were expected to appear in court today, according to a national broadcaster's report. Detectives have signalled the inquiry is continuing and that additional charges against other individuals remain possible as evidence is reviewed.
