Fatal Crash Closes M23 Near Gatwick

The M23 motorway is currently closed coastbound between junctions eight and 10 following a fatal collision involving a van.

The incident occurred on the southbound carriageway of the M23 at approximately 01:20 BST on Wednesday near junction nine, which serves Crawley, according to National Highways.

As a result, the M23 has been closed between junction eight, which connects to the M25 near Merstham, and junction 10, which links to the A264 at Crawley. A diversion route has been established for affected motorists.

Travel monitoring service Inrix reports that congestion is impacting the M25 in both directions, with traffic delays extending back to junction five for the M26 in Kent. Drivers traveling to Gatwick Airport are advised to allow additional time for their journeys and consider alternative routes.

A diversion has been implemented for vehicles leaving the M25 at junction six. The route directs traffic southbound along the A22 towards Eastbourne, then via the A264 through Copthorne, rejoining the M23 at junction 10.

National Highways has indicated that the road closure is expected to remain in place until late afternoon.
