Linda Patterson, 58, died in a collision involving four vehicles on the A8 near Newbridge on Monday, 7 September 2026. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Three people have been charged in connection with the incident and are scheduled to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
Ms Patterson was driving a grey Hyundai i30 when the crash occurred at approximately 9:25. The collision also involved a grey Mercedes A250, a black Renault Captur, and a grey Skoda Karoq, according to police reports. A 32-year-old man and two women, aged 19 and 23, have been charged following the incident.
In a statement released through Police Scotland, Ms Patterson's family paid tribute to her character and the impact she had on those around her.
She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend who brought so much love and joy to those who knew her. Linda was a beautiful soul whose warmth and cheery sense of humour left their mark on everyone she knew.
The family added that Ms Patterson possessed a distinctive outlook on life.
She had an amazing ability to always look on the positive side of life and was a great support and comfort to those she loved.They concluded their tribute by stating:
We are devastated by her loss, but she will be forever in our hearts.
Road closure and travel disruption
The crash caused significant disruption to traffic in the area. The A8 between Newbridge and Edinburgh Airport was closed for approximately 10 hours following the incident, according to reports from the incident. The road was reopened around 7:05pm on Monday. Edinburgh Airport warned travellers of major access disruption because the A8 serves as a key road link to the terminal.
Police investigation and public appeal
Sergeant Mike Thomson of Police Scotland expressed the force's condolences to Ms Patterson's family and friends during what he described as a devastating time. He confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing but stated that police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Officers are continuing to appeal for information from the public.
