A 31-year-old man has been charged under the National Security Act following allegations of contact with Russia's military intelligence agency.
Joshua Cammidge, resident of Swindon, is accused of receiving instructions from someone believed to be associated with the GRU Volunteer Corps, an organization controlled by Russia's military intelligence service, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.
The charges against him include assisting a foreign intelligence service and preparatory conduct related to national security offences.
Cammidge is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday for his initial hearing.
The case represents a continuation of law enforcement efforts to identify and prosecute individuals suspected of engaging with foreign intelligence services. National Security Act charges have become increasingly common as authorities work to counter alleged espionage and intelligence-gathering activities on British soil.
