Joshua Cammidge, resident of Swindon, is accused of receiving instructions from someone believed to be associated with the GRU Volunteer Corps, an organization controlled by Russia's military intelligence service, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Cammidge is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday for his initial hearing.

The case represents a continuation of law enforcement efforts to identify and prosecute individuals suspected of engaging with foreign intelligence services. National Security Act charges have become increasingly common as authorities work to counter alleged espionage and intelligence-gathering activities on British soil.

The GRU Volunteer Corps, the organization allegedly involved in this case, has been the subject of international scrutiny for its activities. Russia's military intelligence agency has faced numerous allegations of conducting operations beyond Russian borders, including in Western nations.

Further developments in this case are expected to emerge as the legal proceedings progress through the courts. The Westminster Magistrates' Court appearance will provide an opportunity for initial evidence to be presented and bail conditions to be determined.
