Two people and a dog were rescued after becoming stranded by the rising tide on the south of Scotland coast on Sunday afternoon. Kippford RNLI was called out to help the group, who had been cut off near Sandyhills beach, south of Dalbeattie in Dumfries and Galloway.
What happened near Sandyhills beach?
The alarm was raised early on Sunday afternoon at a spot near Sandyhills beach, south of Dalbeattie in Dumfries and Galloway. The duo and the dog had become cut off by the incoming tide, leaving them stranded until help arrived.
Kippford RNLI said a crew was able to get to the group, confirm they were in good health and take them to shore.
How busy was the Kippford RNLI team?
The incident came during a busy period for the team, which held its annual open day at the weekend. They were also called out on Wednesday to a possible sighting of people in the water, but it turned out to be a
"false alarm with good intent".
Then came the Sunday callout to rescue the people cut off by the rising tide. Lifeboat operations manager Gareth Jones said:
"This was a busy week for Kippford lifeboat and our volunteers have given up many hours to help others and raise awareness of the lifesaving work of the RNLI.
"As a charity we rely on donations from the public and events like the open day directly contribute towards our ability to respond when someone is in trouble at sea.
"I'd like to thank everyone who came along to our open day as well as all of the volunteers who helped out."
