This case follows a pattern of recent explosives-related charges across the UK. In August, a 16-year-old appeared in court charged with possessing bomb-making materials purchased online, including potassium nitrate and sulphur powder, along with three improvised explosive devices. The same month, a 22-year-old Welsh man was charged with terrorism offences after allegedly being found with an IRA manual on his phone and accused of purchasing a blank-firing pistol.

More recently, Mark Neville, 65, was convicted of throwing a petrol bomb at an asylum seeker hotel in Islington on 24 September 2025. CCTV footage, DNA evidence, and computer searches relating to far-right activism contributed to his guilty plea for attempted arson.
