A 23-year-old man has been remanded in custody after police discovered £2.6 million worth of cocaine stashed among Christmas decorations during a raid on a Glasgow flat. According to BBC News, Jordan Wetherill was apprehended at a property in Shettleston on December 21, 2025, with more than 100 blocks of cocaine and a smaller quantity of heroin. He has pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of both drugs, leaving him facing a substantial prison sentence.
When officers entered the flat, they discovered the drugs scattered across the living room, with the cocaine blocks prominently displayed among Santa gift bags. The haul included 103 blocks of white powder, each marked with a FedEx-style delivery company label and weighing approximately 1kg (2.2lbs). Prosecutor Jennifer Nicholson-White explained to the High Court of Glasgow that analysis confirmed the blocks contained cocaine, with a total street value of £2,591,000. Heroin found at the scene was valued at an estimated £30,000.
Wetherill, a first-time offender from Parkhead, was not alone when police arrived. Officers initially located packages of heroin in a supermarket carrier bag before uncovering the larger cocaine stash. Fingerprint evidence at the scene directly linked Wetherill to the operation, strengthening the prosecution's case against him.
During the hearing at the High Court in Glasgow, Wetherill's defence lawyer Billy Lavelle requested that bail be continued. However, Lord Ghosh rejected this application and ordered Wetherill to remain in custody pending sentencing. Sentencing has been deferred until next month in Edinburgh, where the court will determine his punishment.
How does this compare to other recent drug seizures in Scotland?
This seizure represents one of the largest cocaine hauls in recent Glasgow operations. In October 2026, police seized approximately £1.6 million worth of cocaine from a Glasgow flat on Holm Street, leading to the arrest of a 29-year-old man and 21-year-old woman. Earlier in the year, a separate operation in August 2026 resulted in two men being charged after police recovered cocaine worth up to £579,000 during raids on Glasgow properties. These cases illustrate the scale of drug trafficking operations across the city.
What happens next?
Wetherill will return to court in Edinburgh next month for sentencing. As a first-time offender who has admitted guilt, the judge will consider mitigating factors alongside the severity of the offence and the substantial quantity of drugs involved. The case will conclude the legal proceedings against him, though police investigations into the broader supply network may continue.
