The family of Nicholas Brandram have rejected claims that he was responsible for the so-called "Putney pusher" incident and stated he "took his own life after months of immense pressure caused by a Metropolitan Police investigation".
Brandram, a 44-year-old HSBC director, was found dead at his west London home on 16 September 2026. His death was not believed to be suspicious.
The incident in question occurred in 2017 when a woman was pushed toward a bus in Putney. The investigation into the matter had been closed in 2018 following other arrests, but was later reopened. Brandram was arrested in June 2026 on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm and was released under investigation as inquiries continued.
His family's statement represents their first public response since his death and directly contradicts the police's working theory in the case. The circumstances surrounding his death and the family's allegations have raised questions about the impact of the investigation on his wellbeing during the months leading up to the incident.
The Metropolitan Police has not yet issued a formal response to the family's claims regarding their investigation's role in events preceding his death.
