Israeli Strike Hits Hamas Police Post in Jabalia
An Israeli airstrike targeted a police post operated by Hamas in northern Gaza, resulting in the deaths of at least seven individuals, including a senior officer and a woman, according to health and police officials.
Eyewitnesses reported to the BBC that an Israeli drone launched four missiles at the post located near a busy market in the Jabalia area of northern Gaza.
The Hamas-run interior ministry in the Palestinian territory stated that Colonel Mohammed Marwan Salem, head of the local police station, along with several other officers, were among those killed in what the ministry described as a "massacre."
The Israeli military identified Marwan as the head of military security for Hamas's Central Jabalia Battalion and confirmed that three other individuals, described as "terrorists," were killed alongside him.
The military named the other deceased as Abdul Malik al-Jabin, Ghassan al-Daqas, and Yaman Abu Obeida, noting that the first two were police officers.
The casualties were transported to al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City. Mohammed Moussa, uncle of another deceased police officer, insisted that his nephew was a civilian.
"He was on duty - part of the civilian police force - patrolling the Fallujah roundabout in a civilian vehicle when he was targeted by surveillance aircraft," Mohammed Moussa told news agency.
"I want to understand: what was the purpose of targeting him?" he asked.
Additional Casualties Reported in Southern Gaza
On Tuesday, two more fatalities were reported due to Israeli fire in southern Gaza.
Medics informed that an airstrike in the Khan Younis area killed a man and injured three others. The Israeli military stated that the strike targeted a Hamas operative.
In Rafah, a 10-year-old boy named Muataz Abu Shaar was killed by Israeli gunfire, according to medical personnel.
"He was her [his mother's] support. What is she supposed to do? May God grant her and her heart patience," said the boy's aunt, Suzan Abu Shaar. "Wherever we go, there is no safety. We want them to stop these massacres. We want them to stop the war."
She added, "He was sitting in his tent, getting changed."
The Israeli military has not issued a statement regarding this incident.
Ceasefire Violations and Ongoing Conflict
Both Israel and Hamas have accused each other of frequent ceasefire violations since the truce took effect in the Palestinian territory in October 2023.
According to Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry, Israeli fire has resulted in at least 1,110 deaths since the ceasefire began, while the Israeli military reports that four of its soldiers have been killed in attacks by Palestinians.
The current conflict was initiated by a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, which caused approximately 1,200 deaths and the abduction of 251 individuals.
In response, Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza, during which more than 73,230 people have been killed, according to Gaza's health ministry.
