Woman arrested after bomb disposal unit attends roadside stop

A woman in her 20s has been arrested after a bomb disposal unit attended an incident in the Republic of Ireland. An Garda Síochána stopped the vehicle she was driving on the N2 south of Carrickmacross, County Monaghan at about 15:00 local time on Wednesday.

What happened after the stop?

Gardaí then requested the assistance of the Irish Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team. The EOD completed an examination of the vehicle, but the outcome of that examination is not being released for operational reasons.

What has police said since?

An Garda Síochána is providing no further comment as it is an ongoing operation, and the road has since reopened.
