Families in Jersey have less than a week left to apply for help with the costs of preparing children for the new school year. The Back to School Bonus scheme offers a one-off payment of up to £150 towards uniforms, stationery and other essentials for children from reception to Year 11.
The last government announced the funding in April for parents who do not receive income support and earn a combined income of £75,000 or less. The application deadline is Friday 31 July, with money due to be paid into bank accounts in August.
The Government of Jersey said the fund had been designed to help families facing cost-of-living pressures. The amount of the bonus is £100 for each primary school child and £150 for each secondary school child.
The government said parents on Income Support would not need to apply and would automatically be given the bonus in August.
Who can get the Back to School Bonus?
The scheme is available to parents who do not receive income support and who have a combined income of £75,000 or less. It is intended to help with school essentials including uniform, stationery and other items needed for the new school year.
When is the deadline?
Applications must be submitted by Friday 31 July. Payments are due to be made into bank accounts in August.
How much money is available?
Families can receive £100 for each primary school child and £150 for each secondary school child. The maximum one-off payment is up to £150 for eligible children from reception to Year 11.
Do Income Support families need to apply?
No. Parents on Income Support will not need to apply and will automatically receive the bonus in August.
