Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff escaped without injury after gunmen opened fire on his vehicle in Mumbai on Sunday evening, though two other people were wounded in the attack, according to authorities investigating the incident. The 36-year-old was travelling in a car departing from a football club in the Juhu suburb when multiple shots were fired at close range. According to BBC News, police confirmed that Shroff sustained no gunshot wounds despite the intensity of the assault.
Video footage circulated by multiple news organisations captured at least two armed individuals discharging numerous rounds at the front passenger section of the slowly moving vehicle as it passed through a crowd. The shooting has intensified anxieties surrounding the protection of prominent figures in India, where several have been killed or harmed in organised assaults over recent years. Maharashtra's deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde visited Shroff following the attack and stated that the performer and his mother were deeply "shaken" by the incident. "These attempts to intimidate people will not be tolerated, and we will put an end to this hooliganism," Shinde declared.
The two individuals injured in the shooting were identified as Firdaus, Shroff's driver who sustained a wound to his left hand, and Chauhan, an autorickshaw driver, according to New Indian Express reporting. A social-media post and audio recording purportedly claiming responsibility for the attack referenced the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, though police had not confirmed the claim's authenticity.
Investigation and Legal Action
On 19 October, Mumbai Police registered an attempted-murder case against three unidentified individuals and escalated the investigation from the local Juhu police station to the Mumbai Crime Branch, according to Rediff. The formal complaint invokes Sections 109(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act. Investigators are examining CCTV footage and ballistic evidence while attempting to identify and apprehend the three suspects.
Pattern of Violence Against Public Figures
This assault represents the latest in a series of attacks targeting India's most prominent personalities. In 2024, law enforcement apprehended two members of a criminal organisation for a gun attack directed at the residence of Bollywood actor Salman Khan. That same year, prominent Indian politician Baba Siddique was fatally shot in Mumbai, underscoring the escalating security challenges facing high-profile individuals across the nation.
About Tiger Shroff
The offspring of two actors, Shroff launched his film career in 2014 with the romantic drama Heropanti and has since appeared in numerous productions. Beyond his entertainment career, he maintains an active interest in football and plays for the professional football club Mumbai FC, which places him in public spaces regularly and may have contributed to his vulnerability to the attack.
