Vanessa Trump, the former wife of Donald Trump Jr., has declared herself cancer-free following a breast cancer diagnosis she received earlier this year. The 48-year-old shared the news through a video posted on her 19-year-old daughter Kai's Instagram account, revealing that her recent test results
came back clear, so I'm finally cancer-free. According to BBC News, Vanessa and Kai subsequently released an extended video on the following day in which they discussed breast cancer awareness, early detection, and prevention strategies.
Vanessa, who shares five children with the President's eldest son, first discovered her condition when she experienced arm pain over several months before finding a pea-sized lump in her breast. Testing confirmed the lump was a malignant tumour. She was initially diagnosed in April and publicly announced the diagnosis in May through a social media post. According to NBC, Vanessa reported in June that she had been recovering from surgery for four weeks and expected to begin the second stage of treatment soon. She ultimately underwent a lumpectomy and radiation treatments to address the disease.
In the YouTube video discussing her experience, Vanessa reflected on the emotional toll of waiting for test results.
It's a process you have to deal with, she explained.
You have to be mentally strong for yourself because you're going to need the strength to fight whatever challenge it is that's coming towards you.
Family Support and Public Awareness
Kai Trump, alongside her mother, used the platform to raise awareness during October, which is designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about early detection, education, and support for those affected by breast cancer,Kai wrote on Instagram.
I sat down with my mom and Dr. Nicole Saphier to talk about my mom's journey with breast cancer and learn more about prevention and early detection.
According to Newsweek, the video featured breast cancer physician Dr. Nicole Saphier, who emphasized that breast cancer experiences differ significantly from person to person. Vanessa's five children with Donald Trump Jr.—Kai, 19; Donald III, 17; Tristan, 15; Spencer, 14; and Chloe, 12—have been part of her support network throughout her treatment journey.
Kai's Instagram post garnered over 20,000 likes and hundreds of comments expressing support and encouragement. Among those offering well wishes was American singer and media personality Mary Millben, who joined the broader public response celebrating Vanessa's recovery.
Understanding Breast Cancer Risk and Treatment
Vanessa's diagnosis and recovery highlight the prevalence of breast cancer among women in the United States. According to the American Cancer Society, the average risk of a woman developing breast cancer is approximately 1 in 8, or 13 percent. The disease accounts for 30 percent of all new female cancers annually, making it a significant public health concern.
Modern treatment approaches have evolved considerably, with surgery curing most breast cancer cases. When disease remains following surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and endocrine therapy can reduce long-term risk of recurrence. Recent advances in treatment options include more targeted therapies specifically designed for early-stage breast cancer, innovative hormonal therapy approaches, and increasingly precise and effective radiotherapy techniques that minimize damage to surrounding tissue.
Personal Life and Relationships
Vanessa separated from Donald Trump Jr. in 2018 and announced last year that she had begun dating professional golfer Tiger Woods. Her openness about her cancer journey and recovery represents a shift toward public health advocacy within her family, using her platform to encourage early detection and awareness among broader audiences.
