Heavy Rainfall in Southern China Raises Flood Concerns
Southern China is experiencing widespread heavy rainfall. By Wednesday, precipitation totals are forecasted to surpass 100mm in numerous areas across Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, and Hunan provinces, with some locations expecting between 150mm and 200mm.
In response, the Office of the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters along with the Ministry of Emergency Management have convened meetings with meteorological and hydrological agencies. These discussions emphasize the necessity of enhanced patrols and emergency preparedness to address the likely flooding resulting from the intense rainfall. Particular attention is being given to reservoirs with known safety vulnerabilities, which are mandated to remain empty during this period and throughout the upcoming rainy season.
Forecasts for Torrential Rain in Southeast Asia
Forecasts indicate torrential rain for the coming week in northern Myanmar, the far east of India—including Nagaland, Manipur, and Assam—and parts of southern China. Rainfall could reach up to 250mm, with some localized areas potentially exceeding 400mm.
Extreme Heatwave Conditions Across Central and Northern India
Central and northern India continue to endure exceptionally high temperatures. Maximum temperatures of up to 45°C have been reported in locations ranging from the western coastal city of Surat to Haryana and Delhi in the north, and Odisha in the east.
These elevated temperatures, combined with high humidity and extreme ultraviolet radiation levels, have prompted the issuance of several yellow heatwave alerts. The intense heat is expected to persist into the early part of the week before cooler air arrives, potentially accompanied by thunderstorms, which may provide some relief.

Flooding and Damage in Nigeria Due to Heavy Rainfall
Recent days have seen heavy rainfall in Nigeria, causing extensive damage in parts of Jalingo, the capital of Taraba state in the east. On Saturday, intense rainfall led to a rapid increase in water levels, resulting in the inundation of properties and destruction of homes.
Although rainfall totals in Nigeria have not reached the extreme levels observed in Southeast Asia, the country's inadequate drainage infrastructure has contributed to increasingly frequent damaging floods.
Unseasonably Cold Weather in Central Western Canada
Central western Canada is currently experiencing unseasonably cold weather. Cities including Calgary, Edmonton, and Saskatoon are recording daytime maximum temperatures below freezing, approximately 15°C below the typical late April averages. Nighttime lows range between -10°C and -12°C.
This cold air mass has also brought snowfall to northern US states such as Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota. However, warmer conditions are anticipated later this week as the cold air mass shifts toward the southern and eastern United States.
