Spoiler warning: This article reveals details from episode eight of The Celebrity Traitors, series two.

The traitor alliance has tightened its grip on the competition after a pivotal moment in Friday's episode left the remaining faithfuls increasingly desperate. According to BBC News, original traitor Maya Jama, the newly recruited King Kenny, and the reluctant James Acaster have developed a ruthless efficiency in eliminating their opponents, with their latest target being comedian Miranda Hart.

The elimination of Miranda, one of three faithfuls targeted for removal before breakfast, reduced the initial 21 contestants to just 10 players. Her departure marked a turning point in the competition's momentum, as the traitors consolidated their advantage while the remaining faithfuls found themselves increasingly at odds with one another.

How did Miranda react to her elimination?

Miranda took the news of her murder extremely poorly, hurling her death note to the ground in frustration. The self-described detective had been confident in her investigative abilities throughout the competition, but her focus on pursuing an incorrect theory about fellow contestant Joanne McNally proved to be her undoing. She expressed particular regret about having publicly debunked her own suspicions at the roundtable, which may have contributed to her vulnerability.

Despite the disappointment of her exit, Miranda reflected on the personal significance of her participation. Having faced health challenges in recent years, she described the experience as transformative.

Ultimately, in my little personal story, this has been quite extraordinary that I've been able to get back and do the thing that I love professionally and do the things that I love personally. Like wandering around a Scottish island and being in nature and laughing and connecting. There were times that I didn't think that would be possible again.

James Acaster privately acknowledged the strength of the remaining traitor hunters, comparing two of them to literary detectives. He noted that James Blunt and Michael Sheen operated like

Holmes and Watson
, but added that they were
completely looking in all the wrong places.

What happened during the scarecrow task?

The Friday episode featured a mission set in what presenter Claudia Winkelman described as a

field of screams
, filled with menacing scarecrow figures. Contestants were tasked with retrieving bags of gold from inside the straw men using pitchforks, with the goal of adding thousands of pounds to the charity prize pot. The challenge proved physically demanding, with Joanne McNally struggling initially to extract any gold despite claiming to possess knot-tying skills from her youth.
I have a newfound respect for the farming community,
she declared after her early difficulties.

The task contained a hidden element that would prove decisive for the competition's trajectory. Beyond the gold, an unrevealed game-changing power awaited one player, but only after the group had to eliminate the proxy pumpkin scarecrow heads of all but three contestants deemed most trustworthy.

A critical moment arrived when Sharon became frustrated with the group's decision-making process, particularly regarding which heads should be preserved. In what James Acaster would later describe as a remarkably foolish decision, the contestants voted to keep the heads of Maya, James Acaster, and Kenny—unknowingly protecting all three traitors.

Maya's private reaction revealed the magnitude of the error.

I had to hold in my laughter. Of all people, you saved us. I just thought, 'oh my gosh, have we completed this game already? We are trusting. We are unsuspecting. We are killing you all'.

What power did the traitors gain?

The special power bestowed upon the group proved to be a double dagger, granting one of the three protected contestants two votes at the evening's roundtable. King Kenny was selected to wield this advantage, becoming what James Acaster termed

King Arthur being crowned keeper of the special blade.
James Blunt expressed confidence in the choice, though his judgment throughout the series had been consistently unreliable.

The double dagger fundamentally altered the power dynamics heading into the roundtable. With time running out for the faithfuls to identify and eliminate the remaining traitors, Michael Sheen declared that he had to catch a traitor during that evening's proceedings. The pressure mounted as contestants realised how far behind they had fallen in their detective work.

I feel like whoever it is, they are five sets ahead of us. We don't have a clue!
noted a bewildered Leigh-Anne.

Who faced elimination at the roundtable?

As discussions began, Kenny warned his fellow contestants to treat him with care given his newfound power. Bash, who had largely avoided scrutiny until this point, drew heat alongside Leigh-Anne and Sharon. Michael Sheen, leading the roundtable discussion, attempted to deflect suspicion away from himself by highlighting Sharon's recent behavioural changes, describing her as acting like a

totally different person
of late.

Kenny accepted this assessment and used his double dagger to vote for Sharon. James Blunt voted the same way, citing her

suspicious
tantrum during the earlier task. Sharon and Joanne McNally each received four votes, forcing a second round of voting to determine who would be banished.

Sharon appeared resigned to her fate, telling the group

Do whatever youse want, it's a game
before making a final plea. Kenny expressed regret about his decision, saying
I wish I didn't take this dagger. But I'm gonna vote for...
before the producers cut to a cliffhanger, leaving viewers uncertain about the final outcome.

What is the current state of the competition?

Nine contestants remain in the competition: six faithfuls and three traitors, positioning the cloaked players in an exceptionally strong position as the series approaches its final two episodes. The traitors' control over the roundtable voting, combined with the faithfuls' continued inability to identify them accurately, has created a significant advantage that may prove insurmountable.

The competition has intensified considerably since the early episodes when Richard E Grant accidentally revealed his traitor status, and the dynamics have shifted dramatically since Kenny joined the traitor team in episode six. With four traitors having been active at various points and the faithful increasingly paranoid, the series has entered its most decisive phase.

Romesh Ranganathan attempted to refocus the group's strategy, reminding Joanne that her policy of refusing to vote off Michael Sheen simply because he is

great company
was not an effective approach to the game. The comedian's observation highlighted how personal relationships and entertainment value had begun to cloud the faithfuls' judgment.

The series will continue with a double-header broadcast on Halloween, with new episodes airing on Thursday and Friday at 20:00 GMT on BBC One. The final episodes will determine whether the traitors can maintain their advantage through to the end or whether the faithfuls can mount a last-minute recovery to identify and eliminate the remaining cloaked players before the prize fund is distributed.
