US spirits giant Sazerac has finalised its purchase of Au Vodka, the Swansea-based premium vodka and ready-to-drink brand known for its distinctive gold packaging and social media-driven marketing campaigns. The transaction, which reported valued at more than £300 million, closed on 14 September 2026, marking a significant milestone for the founders and investors who built the business from scratch over the past decade.
Founders Charlie Morgan and Jackson Quinn, along with early investor DJ Charlie Sloth, are expected to benefit substantially from the sale. The pair reportedly stands to gain approximately £100 million each from the transaction, which represents a remarkable return on their initial investment when they launched Au Vodka in 2015 with little more than an entrepreneurial vision and a conviction that the vodka category needed disruption.

Sazerac, one of the world's largest spirits producers, announced the completion through a statement on 14 September 2026, signalling its confidence in the brand's trajectory and market potential. The acquisition adds Au to Sazerac's extensive portfolio, which encompasses more than 500 brands including Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Fireball Cinnamon Whisky, SVEDKA Vodka, Myers's Rum, BuzzBallz, and Southern Comfort.
Why did Sazerac pursue this acquisition?
Sazerac chief executive Jake Wenz highlighted the company's long-standing admiration for Au Vodka and its remarkable growth since inception.
"Au Vodka is a brand we've long admired. What Charlie, Jackson, and Charlie have achieved in just over a decade is spectacular and rare, and we have big plans for Au as we welcome the brand into the Sazerac family."Wenz emphasised that the deal strengthens Sazerac's position in the United Kingdom market while establishing a foundation for accelerated international expansion of the vodka maker.
How did Au Vodka build its market position?
The brand achieved rapid growth through distinctive visual branding, viral social media campaigns, and strategic celebrity partnerships. Au Vodka's eye-catching bottles and cans, combined with influencer collaborations and organic social media momentum, transformed it into one of the UK's most recognisable premium vodka labels. The company now operates from south Wales with a workforce exceeding 80 employees and has established itself as a genuinely disruptive force within the spirits industry.
Morgan reflected on the company's journey, stating:
"We are proud to have built it into one of the most disruptive brands of this generation. With Sazerac, Au can be offered to more people, in more markets, faster than we ever could alone."This sentiment underscores the founders' recognition that partnership with a global distribution powerhouse would unlock opportunities beyond what independent operation could achieve.
What is the financial context?
The £300 million valuation represents substantial growth from Au Vodka's earlier valuation. A previous assessment valued the business at approximately £150 million in 2023, indicating that the brand's value nearly doubled within three years—a testament to its accelerating commercial momentum and market appeal. Bloomberg reported the acquisition was completed on 14 September 2026, following a binding agreement that had been signed earlier in the year.
The transaction timeline began when Sazerac and Au Vodka entered into a binding agreement on 17 August 2026, with completion anticipated within weeks. The deal was structured to include standard completion conditions typical of acquisitions of this scale, and the closure occurred as projected, enabling both parties to move forward with integration planning.
What happens next for Au Vodka?
Integration of Au Vodka into Sazerac's existing portfolio and global distribution network represents the immediate priority following the completed acquisition. The brand will leverage Sazerac's infrastructure, manufacturing capabilities, and international reach to expand its presence across new markets while maintaining the creative and marketing approaches that established its reputation. Sazerac has signalled its commitment to supporting Au's continued growth trajectory within its broader spirits portfolio, positioning the Welsh brand for accelerated global expansion under new ownership.
