Incident on M5 Causes Significant Delays

Drivers are experiencing lengthy delays in Worcestershire following a lorry jackknifing and crashing into the central reservation on the northbound carriageway of the M5, resulting in lane blockages.

Emergency services responded to reports that the heavy goods vehicle (HGV) had collided and spilled diesel fuel across all lanes between junction 5 near Droitwich and junction 4a for the M42 at approximately 15:20 BST.

Response and Impact

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that one man received medical treatment at the scene. National Highways indicated that lane closures would remain in place for several hours to facilitate recovery and clean-up operations.

A spokesperson for National Highways stated,

"Traffic within the closure was being released past the scene in one lane,"
adding that drivers should expect delays of up to 60 minutes.

The fire and rescue service confirmed that no individuals were trapped in the vehicle. Approximately 300 litres of diesel were spilled, and the lorry was subsequently moved to the hard shoulder.

West Mercia Police verified that the lorry had collided with the central barrier and that officers remained present at the scene to manage the situation.

Motorists traveling northbound on the M5 have been advised to follow signed diversion routes and consider alternative routes or delay their journeys where possible to avoid the affected area.
