Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended for 30 days by the Portuguese Football Federation following his departure from the national team's camp in September. The 41-year-old captain, who has scored 146 goals across 234 appearances for Portugal, walked out of the squad after a dispute with head coach Jorge Jesus over his role in upcoming Nations League fixtures.

According to BBC Sport, the federation's disciplinary council upheld the charge against Ronaldo in full on Monday and imposed a fine of 255 euros (£189). The Al-Nassr forward had been provisionally suspended on 9 October following the incident.

What Led to Ronaldo's Departure?

Ronaldo left Portugal's international camp after being named an unused substitute in a Nations League match against Norway, then learning he would not start in the subsequent fixture against Denmark. In a detailed statement, the veteran forward accused Jesus of twice "breaking his word" and described the situation as an "absolute breach of trust".

The dispute marked a significant moment in Ronaldo's international career. Ronaldo subsequently stated he would accept punishment for his actions but ruled out retiring from international football, signalling his intention to continue representing Portugal despite the conflict with his coach.

What Happens Next?

The 30-day suspension means Ronaldo will be unavailable for Portugal's upcoming international commitments during this period. The disciplinary decision brings closure to the provisional suspension that had been in place since early October, though the fine and suspension period represent significant consequences for the captain's unauthorised departure from the national team setup.
