Everton and Crystal Palace have agreed a player swap that will send winger Dwight McNeil to Selhurst Park while Wales international Brennan Johnson moves to Goodison Park. According to a report from Yahoo Sports, the two clubs have been in discussions over an exchange deal rather than a conventional cash sale, with both players said to be keen on the switch. A separate report from The Sun suggests the arrangement may not involve any transfer fee changing hands at all, though the same Yahoo Sports report indicates Everton had also discussed an offer of £15m plus McNeil for Johnson, pointing to a valuation still being placed on the Wales forward.
Why did the previous McNeil deal collapse?
McNeil, 26, came close to joining Palace in February when the clubs agreed a loan-to-buy arrangement that would have become a permanent £20m transfer this summer. That move fell apart because the necessary paperwork was not completed in time, despite McNeil having already passed a medical examination.
The failed transfer prompted a public response from McNeil's partner, Megan Sharpley, who criticised Palace in a post on Instagram over the impact the collapsed deal had on him.

In all competitions for Palace, Johnson failed to score in 26 appearances, including 13 Premier League starts. McNeil, meanwhile, has scored 15 goals in 128 appearances across all competitions since joining Everton from Burnley for £20m in July 2022.
