A 66-year-old woman has died in hospital following a collision with a vehicle on the A70 Muirkirk Road in the vicinity of Cumnock. The crash occurred at approximately 08:05 on Friday and involved a pedestrian and a white Range Rover Evoque.
Jacqueline Young, a resident of Cumnock, was transported to hospital for emergency treatment but subsequently succumbed to her injuries.
Investigation underway
Police Scotland confirmed that officers are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Sergeant Brian Simpson expressed the force's condolences to the victim's family and outlined the scope of the ongoing inquiry.
We are carrying out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances and we continue to appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash, or has dash-cam footage from the area to please come forward.
Appeal for witnesses
Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with motorists who were in the area at the time of the collision. Police have confirmed that several vehicles passed through the scene immediately after the crash occurred, and officers believe these drivers may possess crucial information.
Sergeant Simpson highlighted two vehicles of particular interest to the investigation.
We are particularly keen to speak with the drivers of a dark-coloured saloon vehicle and a teal-coloured pick-up truck with a cab on the back.
These drivers may have information which could assist with our investigation.
