A woman experienced a serious sexual assault during an evening walk with her dog near a park in the South Lanarkshire town of Blantyre. The incident occurred at approximately 22:00 on Tuesday in an area adjacent to an open grassy space off Westerpark Avenue, close to Abernethy Avenue.
According to police, the woman was approached by an unknown man who then subjected her to a serious sexual assault. Authorities have launched an investigation and are seeking information from the public to identify the perpetrator.
Description of the suspect
The man involved in the attack is described as white, approximately 5ft 9in (1.75m) in height. At the time of the incident, he was wearing dark clothing and a black beanie hat.
Police appeal for witnesses
Detective Sergeant Raymond Giulianotti commented on the severity of the incident, stating:
This was a terrifying experience for the woman and extensive inquiries are ongoing to trace the individual responsible.
He emphasised the proximity of the location to residential areas and the need for community assistance.
This attack happened very close to a busy residential area, and we are appealing for help from the local community.
