The A855 on the Isle of Skye has reopened to traffic following a landslide that forced drivers to take a 40-mile detour. Highland Council completed work to remove debris and stabilise surrounding ground at Idrigill Bends, where the incident occurred on Friday.

The landslip, which was recorded on CCTV footage from a neighbouring property, caused no injuries. The closure affected a key route that encircles the Trotternish peninsula in the north of the island.

As reported earlier, the initial closure prompted Highland Council to undertake detailed surveying and debris removal operations. The authority has now confirmed that remedial work, stabilisation measures, and drainage improvements have all been finished.

Road now fully accessible

Highland Council stated in a statement:

"The A855 at Idrigill Bends is now open to all traffic following the completion of remedial, stabilisation and drainage works. Thank you to road users and to the local community for their co-operation through the closure period following last Friday's landslide."

The reopening brings an end to the significant disruption that affected the island's transport network. Motorists who had been forced onto the lengthy diversion can now resume their normal routes across the Trotternish peninsula.
