A Shropshire-based charity has signalled expectations of substantial demand this year for its festive initiative delivering Christmas presents to families experiencing financial hardship. According to BBC News, Little Stars, an organisation distributing free essentials to families in need, has launched Santa's Little Stars, operating from Saturday 24 October through Friday 4 December.

The campaign invites members of the public to contribute new, unwrapped toys and gifts at designated collection points throughout Shrewsbury's Darwin shopping centre. Once collected, donations are wrapped and distributed to children ranging from birth to age 17, alongside pregnant women who have been referred to the charity for support.

Little Stars has identified 2025 as its most ambitious campaign year to date, with organisers anticipating that elevated demand will persist as numerous families continue navigating ongoing financial constraints. The charity established Santa's Little Stars in 2020 and has since distributed more than 8,000 presents, benefiting over 2,100 children across the region.

The charity's earlier work demonstrates a broader commitment to supporting vulnerable families. Little Stars previously organised a star-themed fundraising week from 22-28 June 2026 to help families manage school uniform costs, reflecting the organisation's year-round focus on reducing financial barriers for children in need.

Donors can deliver contributions to collection points positioned outside multiple retail locations, including the Collective, The Entertainer, Home Bargains, and Clarks Shoes throughout Shrewsbury. This network of collection sites aims to make participation accessible across the town centre.

Why is demand expected to remain high?

The charity attributes anticipated strong demand to persistent economic pressures affecting households across the region. Many families continue to struggle with the cost of living, making charitable support for essential items and festive gifts increasingly vital during the winter months.

Campaign reach and impact

Since its inception in 2020, Santa's Little Stars has established itself as a significant support mechanism for disadvantaged families. The distribution of over 8,000 presents to more than 2,100 children demonstrates the scale of need within Shropshire and the charity's capacity to respond to it. The 2025 campaign represents an expansion of this established initiative, with the organisation preparing for what it anticipates will be its largest year of operation to date.
