A man has been charged with murder following the discovery of a woman's body inside a burning vehicle in North Wales. Thomas Matthew Hammond Bell, aged 38 and residing on Wellington Road in Rhyl, was brought before Llandudno Magistrates' Court on Thursday after being arrested in connection with the incident.
Emergency services responded to a van fire on Gas Works Lane in Prestatyn, Denbighshire, at approximately 23:30 BST on 4 October. North Wales Police officers attended the scene and subsequently recovered a body from the vehicle. A post-mortem examination later confirmed the deceased was an adult female.
Investigation and arrest
Bell was initially arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery. Custody was extended on Tuesday to allow investigators further time to gather evidence and conduct interviews. He is scheduled to appear before Mold Crown Court on Friday for his next hearing.
Detective Chief Inspector Zoie Dunkerley, leading the investigation, stated that enquiries remain active and appealed for witnesses or anyone with relevant information to contact the police.
