A four-year-old girl has died following a fall from a tower block in East London on Saturday morning. The BBC News reported that Metropolitan Police officers attended an address on St Paul's Road in Barking at approximately 11:00 BST after receiving reports of a child falling from height.
London Ambulance Service paramedics provided emergency first aid at the scene, and the child was transported to hospital. However, she subsequently died from injuries sustained in the fall.
Investigation underway
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson stated that investigators do not currently suspect the incident to be suspicious. The force extended its condolences to the child's family and those close to her during what they described as an extraordinarily difficult period.
The spokesperson explained that a full investigation into the circumstances of the tragedy is continuing. Police have asked anyone with information about what occurred to contact them on 101, referencing incident number CAD 2424/24OCT.
Child safety concerns
This incident adds to a series of tragic accidents involving young children in recent months. A one-year-old boy was hospitalised with life-threatening injuries after falling from a window at a flat above a shop in Gillingham on 27 July, highlighting ongoing concerns about child safety in residential properties. Falls from height remain a significant cause of serious injury and death among young children in the United Kingdom.
