Four people have died following a house fire in Bootle, according to Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service. The blaze, which occurred in Stone Square, was described by Chief Fire Officer Nick Searle as an "intense fire which spread very rapidly."
A fifth person was transported to hospital as a result of the incident. Emergency services attended the scene and worked to contain the spread of the flames across the property.
This represents a significant loss of life in the Merseyside area. Recent months have seen several fatal fire incidents across the North West region, including a fatal fire in Grangetown, Middlesbrough in August 2026, which prompted a murder investigation after two people died and four others were hospitalised.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the Stone Square fire. Further information regarding the cause and identities of those involved is expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
