A 46-year-old cyclist has been killed in a collision involving a blue Ford C-Max Zetec on a major road in Inverclyde. The crash occurred on the A8 in Port Glasgow on the westbound carriageway between the Langbank and Woodhead roundabouts, close to the Woodhall Roundabout, shortly after 19:00 on Tuesday. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two additional male cyclists, aged 37 and 27, sustained injuries in the incident and were transported to hospital for treatment. The driver of the Ford vehicle was also conveyed to hospital but has since been discharged.
The A8 was closed temporarily following the collision to allow emergency services to respond and conduct initial investigations, but the route has now been reopened to traffic.
The deceased cyclist was understood to be an active member of the Johnstone Wheelers cycling club. The organisation released a statement on social media expressing their grief, describing him as
one of cycling's good guysand saying the club was
devastated at the lossof their fellow member.
A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed that the investigation into the circumstances of the collision remains ongoing. Officers are working to establish the full sequence of events that led to the crash and determine whether any factors contributed to the incident.
