Police have established a substantial cordon across a major Bristol city centre area after receiving a report of a suspicious item left by an unknown individual.
According to BBC News, the incident began when a member of the public alerted authorities to a man depositing a suspicious object on Park Street at approximately 08:25 BST. In response, Avon and Somerset Police implemented a 50-metre cordon encompassing Park Street itself along with Hill Street, St George's Road, and Frogmore Street.
The police force has activated its explosive ordnance disposal unit to examine the item and conduct a thorough investigation of the scene. A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police stated that the specialist team would attend the location to perform detailed enquiries into the nature of the object and the circumstances surrounding its discovery.
This incident follows a pattern of similar security alerts across the United Kingdom. A comparable situation unfolded in Edinburgh when a bomb disposal team was summoned to Restalrig Avenue, resulting in evacuations and transport disruptions. Additionally, residents in Belfast were evacuated from Workman Avenue during a security alert involving a suspicious object, demonstrating the frequency with which such incidents occur across UK cities.
Authorities have advised the public to avoid the cordoned areas while the investigation proceeds. Further updates are expected as the explosive ordnance disposal unit completes its assessment of the item.
