A man in his 60s died on Friday afternoon after his motorcycle collided with a car on the N56 at Termon, County Donegal, in the Republic of Ireland. Gardaí said the crash occurred at around 16:30 local time and that the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car, a woman in her 30s, was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries described as non-serious.
The motorcyclist's body was subsequently removed to Letterkenny University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination is due to take place. Gardaí sealed off the site on Friday to allow forensic collision investigators to carry out an examination, and local traffic diversions were put in place while the work continued.
What are Gardaí asking the public to do?
Gardaí have appealed to anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward, and are especially keen to hear from motorists who were driving along the N56 between the Lagoon Restaurant & Guesthouse and Creeslough between 4pm and 5pm on Friday and who may have dashcam recordings. According to a report by The Sun, investigators have directed anyone with information or footage to contact Milford Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
Has Donegal seen other fatal crashes recently?
This is not the first fatal road incident in the county in recent months. In early August 2026, a man in his 20s died following a crash between a car and a 4x4 in Fincashel, Pettigo, an incident that also left a woman in her 20s seriously injured. Separately, in early July 2026, three men died in unrelated weekend crashes across Donegal, Cork and Kildare, part of a run of fatal road incidents that also included the death of a man in his 70s in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in County Cavan.
What happens next?
A post-mortem examination on the motorcyclist is scheduled to take place at Letterkenny University Hospital, according to The Sun's report, which is expected to help investigators establish the exact circumstances of the collision. The Garda forensic investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
