A national organisation dedicated to men's mental health and suicide prevention is marking a decade of operation by expanding its presence in Devon.
Andy's Man Club, established in 2016 in Halifax, West Yorkshire, was created in memory of Andy Roberts, a young man who died by suicide at age 23. The charity operates as a confidential environment where men can discuss their feelings openly and without fear of judgment.
The organisation opened its inaugural Devon location in Newton Abbot during 2018. Since then, its footprint across the county has grown substantially to encompass 14 existing clubs. On Monday, the charity is opening its 15th Devon venue in Ivybridge, continuing its expansion strategy.
Roger Bond, a resident of Plymouth, attended his first meeting approximately three years ago during a period he describes as deeply challenging.
He had "never looked back"following that initial session, highlighting the impact the club has had on his wellbeing and recovery.
The expansion reflects growing recognition of the need for accessible mental health support tailored specifically to men, addressing the particular barriers many face in seeking help for emotional and psychological difficulties.
