A charity hopes new equipment will help more people access breastfeeding support services as World Breastfeeding Week continues. Family Nursing and Home Care has bought 10 hospital-grade breast pumps, single-use pump kits and a specialist maternity recliner chair for a new breastfeeding and infant feeding clinic at Pathways.
The charity said it is also raising awareness of World Breastfeeding Week, which runs until 7 August. Debra Hennessy, of Family Nursing and Home Care, said it was
"an opportunity to celebrate breastfeeding and recognise the importance of ensuring families have access to the support they need".
The charity said the new equipment will
"improve access to breastfeeding support, remove financial barriers for families, and help mothers across the island continue breastfeeding for longer if they choose to do so". It added that it aims to support families with feeding difficulties, premature births, delayed milk supply or other challenges, and that the service would support up to 160 mothers.
How will the new clinic help families?
The new Pathways clinic will provide an additional location for breastfeeding and infant feeding support in the east of the island, the charity said. Family Nursing and Home Care said this will improve accessibility for local families seeking help with feeding concerns.
Where did the funding come from?
The charity said the hospital-grade pumps and pump kits were bought using funding provided by the Jersey Community Foundation. It added that the Coop Community Fund helped fund the purchase of the maternity recliner chair.
