Residents of East Riding of Yorkshire struggling with their mental health are being directed toward free support services as the region marks World Mental Health Day on 10 October. The council's Wellbeing for Us programme, open to adults aged 18 and over, aims to strengthen confidence, foster meaningful relationships and combat social isolation through a combination of face-to-face workshops and peer-led social groups.

The initiative addresses a range of mental health concerns, from anxiety and stress management to self-esteem building. Beyond its own activities, the programme connects participants with external resources, including community organisations, NHS referrals and other health services available across the region.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has contracted Wellbeing Forus Limited to deliver mental health and emotional wellbeing support, with the service valued at £760,000 excluding VAT (£912,000 including VAT). The contract is structured across three tiers, designed to provide support ranging from community engagement through to connections with statutory services.

Where workshops and groups are running

Workshops are being delivered on a rolling basis across eight locations: Withernsea, Hornsea, Bridlington, Beverley, Driffield, Pocklington, Goole and Hessle. Drop-in sessions operate in Goole and at Lelley Fields Crematorium, with informal peer support social groups also meeting at these two venues. The council indicated that additional groups are in development.

A structured weekly offering has recently launched in Goole, where Wellbeing Wednesdays drop-in sessions began on 24 June 2026. These sessions provide refreshments, informal conversation, gentle activities and signposting to local services, creating an accessible entry point for residents seeking support.

How long will the service continue?

The contract is scheduled to run until 1 April 2028, with the potential for three additional 12-month extensions that could extend provision through to 1 April 2031, providing continuity for participants and the wider mental health support infrastructure.
