VAT Reduction to Lower Attraction Ticket Prices This Summer

Visitors to attractions such as Birdworld in Farnham, Surrey, will benefit from reduced ticket prices due to government VAT cuts implemented during the summer holidays.

The government’s initiative to lower prices at family attractions over the summer period has been described as a "wonderful initiative" by business representatives, who believe it will encourage more people to visit.

Starting Thursday, government plans will reduce VAT on certain attraction tickets across the UK, with businesses expected to pass these savings on to customers.

James Robson, general manager of Birdworld in Farnham, Surrey, expressed hope that the VAT reduction would make visits more affordable for families facing financial challenges. He also advocated for more enduring support measures for attractions.

"This opens up accessibility to people who might be feeling the strain over the summer holidays," he said.
"It's a wonderful initiative that looks to provide a bit of tax relief through the summer holidays.
It's getting more and more expensive to run these attractions, and long term it would be good to see further relief."

A government spokesperson confirmed that businesses are expected to pass on the discounts resulting from the VAT cut to customers.

Accessibility and Support for Families

The scheme is scheduled to run until 1 September, aligning with the school summer holiday period.

Caroline Cooney, representing Hobbledown near Epsom, emphasized the importance of making experiences affordable for families under financial pressure.

"We are trying to actively help customers. We understand families are under financial pressures and believe great experiences should be accessible for them.
We are hoping to see more people. This six weeks is quite important."
