Izzy Escobar's Breakthrough Moment

American singer Izzy Escobar shares her excitement about contributing to the soundtrack, marking her first song placement in a major film.

"This is my first time ever having a song in a major film," Escobar told beat.

Originally from Massachusetts, Escobar is recognized for her emotive and personal songwriting style, often drawing inspiration from her Cuban and Italian heritage. She is also skilled in playing the violin and piano.

In a Forbes interview last year, Escobar named Lady Gaga as her dream artist to tour with. While that opportunity remains in the future, she is currently thrilled to be featured on the same album.

Escobar wrote and performed the song "Evergreen Avenue" specifically for the soundtrack of "one of my favourite movies."

"I'm still trying to wrap my head around it," she said.
"It was a 'pinch me' moment seeing my name next to the likes of Lady Gaga - something that feels like a sign I should keep persevering."

Collaboration with Director David Frankel

Escobar explained that the film's director, David Frankel, contacted her to write a song for the movie.

Although this was her first experience having music featured in a film, she noted that her writing process remained consistent with her usual approach.

"I'm a very visual writer in the way that I story tell," she said. "I close my eyes when I sit down on my keys and make up a movie in my own mind."

Frankel was inspired by Escobar's 2025 song "Sunny in London," appreciating its sonic qualities and requesting a new piece with a similar feel.

"He really loved the sonic palette of the song and wanted me to write something that was in a similar vein," Escobar explained.
"I did my research and then started to kind of brainstorm what those ideas could be and how I could integrate my own musicality into the pre-existing world of Devil Wears Prada."

Placement and Impact of "Evergreen Avenue" in the Film

Without revealing spoilers, Escobar shared that "Evergreen Avenue" is featured towards the end of the film during an emotional scene.

"I don't want to give too much away, but I'm on the radio in Anne Hathaway's [character's] house, which is pretty cool," she said.

The film’s world premiere in New York was the first time Escobar experienced her song integrated into the movie.

"To finally see it visualised on-screen with some of my favourite artists in the room, it was the best feeling in the world," she stated.

Personal Connection to the Original Film

Escobar expressed how much the original 2006 film means to her, recalling how it inspired her as a child to express herself through music and fashion.

"When I saw Devil Wears Prada, I just remember thinking like, 'oh my gosh, this is [another] way of expressing yourself, like music'," she told Newsbeat.

She also reflected on the interplay between the music and fashion industries, noting how the film exemplifies this dynamic.

"I think we're seeing it right now with Lady Gaga and Doechii's song Runway.
"I love the video that they did incorporating all the different types of fashion and expressing themselves but also at the same time, singing a song that highlights feeling confident and empowered."

Soundtrack Expectations

With a lineup of major artists alongside Escobar, fans can anticipate an energetic and inspiring soundtrack.

"It's going to make you dance and feel very, very empowered and inspired and excited," Escobar said.
