At 87 years old, folk music icon Judy Collins is preparing for a significant milestone in her storied career. According to The Guardian, the legendary singer-songwriter will answer fan questions ahead of her special one-off UK concert at the London Palladium on 6 February 2027. Though the tour carries the label "farewell," Collins has clarified that the designation does not signal her retirement from performing, but rather an opportunity to tour with an array of special guests.

Collins' influence on American folk music spans nearly seven decades. Born in Seattle in 1939, she emerged as a central figure in the vibrant folk scene of early 1960s New York, establishing herself as a peer to the era's most celebrated singer-songwriters. Her recording of "Both Sides, Now" predated Joni Mitchell's own version and climbed into the US Top 10, earning a Grammy Award in the process. She also recorded early interpretations of compositions by Leonard Cohen, Randy Newman and other major artists of the period.

Beyond folk traditions, Collins expanded her artistic range considerably. Her rendition of Stephen Sondheim's "Send in the Clowns" stands as one of the definitive interpretations, rivalling Frank Sinatra's celebrated version, and charted on the US Billboard Hot 100 in both 1975 and 1977. Across her career, she has released 36 studio albums and ventured into filmmaking, earning an Academy Award nomination as director of "Antonia: A Portrait of the Woman," a 1974 documentary about her former music instructor, renowned orchestra conductor Antonia Brico.

The tour, titled "Sweet Judy Blue Eyes" after Stephen Stills' composition written about their relationship, reflects on a significant chapter in Collins' personal and creative history. The connection between Stills and Collins produced a series of emotionally charged songs from both artists following the end of their romantic involvement. According to the Los Angeles Times, the tour name draws directly from this musical legacy.

Collins has navigated significant personal challenges while maintaining her touring schedule. USA TODAY reported that her husband, industrial designer Louis Nelson, died of cancer in December 2024, and she has spoken openly about managing her grief while continuing to perform. Despite the demands of her career, Collins typically maintains a schedule of approximately 100 shows annually, though she has adjusted her commitments in recent years.

The London Palladium performance will feature an impressive lineup of special guests, including Elles Bailey, Eliza Carthy, Seth Lakeman and Katherine Priddy. The concert represents a rare opportunity for UK audiences to experience Collins' artistry in an intimate setting. Additionally, the tour is being documented for a forthcoming film about Collins' life, music and enduring legacy.

Recognition of Collins' contributions to music continued into 2026. She was inducted into Boston's Folk Americana Roots Hall of Fame in February 2026 as part of its Class of '25, joining other legendary artists including Neil Young, Jackson Browne and Leonard Cohen.
