An evening of television offers viewers a range of entertainment, from a new detective procedural to documentaries and comedy. Here are the programmes worth your time.
Winter
9pm, ITV1
A fresh take on the mismatched detective partnership arrives with the introduction of Dr Ethan Winter, a forensic pathologist played by Richard Armitage whose confidence in his abilities borders on arrogance—he claims he can "read a body like a book." Opposite him stands DI Lauren Bell, portrayed by Annabel Scholey, a methodical investigator whose demeanour is notably reserved. When a young woman's death lands on their desks, the two professionals find themselves at odds, but an unexpected postmortem discovery forces them into an uneasy collaboration.
The six-part series is set in Bristol, with Jamie Kenna playing DS Ellis Daldry. The drama is adapted from the French television series Balthazar, which was created by Clothilde Jamin and Clélia Constantine.
Beyond the opening murder, Winter carries a longer narrative thread: the title character pursues an unsolved case connected to someone close to him, while each episode also presents its own standalone crime to investigate. The complete series becomes available on ITVX from 30 September 2026.

Cause of Death

A tragic holiday accident forms the basis of this investigation. A nineteen-year-old man died after falling into a ravine while visiting Tenerife. Pathologist Dr Richard Shepherd returns to the location of the incident alongside the young man's mother, Debbie, to retrace his final movements. By reconstructing his last walk, they attempt to determine the precise cause of death: whether dehydration, exhaustion, or another factor proved fatal.
Yuja Wang: A Life
9pm, Sky Arts
This portrait of the accomplished Chinese-American pianist Yuja Wang succeeds in chronicling her personal journey while preserving an element of her enigmatic quality. During interviews, she adopts a relaxed posture, as though in a therapeutic setting, yet finds difficulty articulating the source of her extraordinary musical talent. Despite her charm, she remains somewhat distant and reflective.
Not Going Out
10pm, BBC One
Echoes of a well-known sitcom anniversary special emerge as Lee, played by Lee Mack, attempts to steer unwelcome houseguests Anna and Toby—portrayed by Abigail Cruttenden and Hugh Dennis respectively—away from discovering that Lucy, played by Sally Bretton, is deliberately avoiding them upstairs. A household pet complicates matters further.
Martin Compston: Living Las Vegas

The second instalment of this travel series finds Compston, best known for his role in the police drama Line of Duty, embracing the Old West.
"Now I know why John Wayne walked like that …"he observes as he embarks on an authentic cowboy experience in the Nevada desert. The episode includes a visit to the Arts District alongside chef James Trees and a journey to Sandy Valley Ranch with Compston's wife, Tianna. Additional highlights feature a lively cocktail evening with Scottish drag performer Lawrence Chaney and a long-overdue excursion to the Grand Canyon.
