Jodie Burrage and Alicia Dudeney progressed to the second round of the Lexus Wrexham Open on day two of the World Tennis Tour W100 event, with both British players securing straight-set victories at Wrexham Tennis & Padel Centre. According to BBC Sport, the pair's wins on 21 October extended Great Britain's representation in the tournament, which runs from 18 to 25 October.
Burrage defeated Netherlands player Eva Vedder, ranked 180th in the world, 6-2 7-5 in the opening match of the day. The British player will face Germany's fourth-seeded Noma Noha Akugue in Thursday's second-round action. Dudeney, ranked 232nd globally and Britain's seventh-ranked player, overcame Germany's Tessa Johanna Brockmann with a 6-4 6-4 victory and will next play Switzerland's seventh seed Susan Bandecchi.
Hannah Kugman also progressed on the opening day, joining Burrage and Dudeney in advancing to Thursday's matches. According to the Lawn Tennis Association, Kugman defeated Fiona Crawley 6-2 6-2 in 67 minutes, with the 17-year-old ranked 341st at the time of the tournament. She will face Suzan Lamens in the second round.
Siskova upsets Charaeva in three-set thriller
The Czech Republic's Anna Siskova claimed a significant victory by defeating Armenia's Alina Charaeva 4-6 6-3 6-2 after losing the opening set. Charaeva had generated considerable attention earlier in October by defeating world number one Elena Rybakina at the China Open, but could not maintain that form against Siskova's comeback performance.
Tournament context and defending champion
Mimi Xu of Swansea, who won the Wrexham Open in 2025, is not defending her title this year and has instead chosen to compete at the W75 Saguenay tournament in Canada. According to BBC Sport, the tournament's previous champions include Viktorija Golubic (2023), Sonay Kartal (2024), and Marketa Vondrousova (2022).
In a separate competition at the venue, Daniella Britton won the inaugural Wrexham Open One Point Grand, a one-point knockout format involving both amateur and professional players.
