Hamilton Clinches Pole at Silverstone Sprint Race
Lewis Hamilton has secured pole position for the sprint race at the British Grand Prix held at Silverstone, further cementing his remarkable record at this venue. Hamilton, who has won the British Grand Prix nine times—a record for any Formula 1 race—edged out championship leader Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes by a mere 0.011 seconds.
Max Verstappen of Red Bull recorded the third fastest time, trailing Hamilton by 0.321 seconds. Meanwhile, Mercedes' George Russell, who is 40 points behind Antonelli in the championship standings, finished in a disappointing fifth place, just behind Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.
McLaren's Lando Norris, the reigning world champion and last year's British Grand Prix winner, was sixth fastest, followed by his teammate Oscar Piastri. Completing the top ten were Red Bull's Isack Hadjar along with Racing Bulls drivers Liam Lawson and British rookie Arvid Lindblad.
Hamilton Reacts to Pole Position and Crowd Support
The packed grandstands, filled with approximately 150,000 fans, erupted in cheers as Hamilton crossed the finish line to claim pole position ahead of Antonelli. Reflecting on his achievement, Hamilton expressed his enthusiasm and connection to the Silverstone circuit and its supporters.
"Wow. OK. I like it. I love this place. I love this crowd. I can't express to you how big a dream it is, and the flow you can get into around this place if you can get the set-up in the right place.
We're ahead of Mercedes. They have so much power, these guys. We did not expect we would be competing for the front row, so it's an amazing surprise. I'm ecstatic."
Ferrari's Progress and Car Upgrades
Despite Ferrari's challenging race last weekend in Austria, Hamilton's recent victory in Barcelona marked his first win with the new team. The seven-time world champion attributed their improved performance at Silverstone to minor upgrades made to the car.
"We brought some tiny bits here," Hamilton said. "I am really pleased to get pole. It was only 10 milliseconds or something like that and the team really deserve it."
Additional Context
Hamilton's pole position at Silverstone adds to his impressive history at the British Grand Prix, where he has consistently demonstrated strong performances. The upcoming sprint race is highly anticipated, with fans eager to see how the competition unfolds among the leading drivers and teams.
