West Ham United have terminated the employment of head coach Nuno Espirito Santo following a disappointing campaign in the Championship. According to BBC Sport, the decision comes after the club's struggles in their second-tier campaign.
The 52-year-old Portuguese manager had held the position since September 2025, having overseen the Hammers' descent from the Premier League in the previous season. Despite being regarded as strong contenders for direct promotion back to the top flight, West Ham's form has deteriorated significantly.
The London club currently occupy eighth position in the Championship standings, sitting six points adrift of table-toppers Middlesbrough. Their recent results have been particularly concerning, with the team managing victories in only two of their last six matches. Most troublingly, they have suffered consecutive defeats at their home ground, including a 3-2 loss to Southampton followed by a 2-1 reverse against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
The appointment of Nuno had come with considerable expectations given his experience and the club's ambitions for immediate promotion. However, the combination of inconsistent performances and mounting pressure from disappointing home results ultimately led to the board's decision to make a change in the dugout.
This managerial change reflects the broader struggles West Ham have faced since their relegation, as the club seeks to find the right leadership to guide them back to the Premier League.
