Gemma Evans Signs for Newcastle United
Wales defender Gemma Evans has officially joined Women's Super League 2 (WSL 2) club Newcastle United following her departure from Liverpool at the conclusion of last season.
Evans, a centre-back, spent two seasons with Liverpool, having previously represented Manchester United, Reading, Bristol City, and Yeovil Town during her career.
At 29 years old, Evans is recognized as one of the senior members of Rhian Wilkinson's Wales national team, having earned 90 caps and scored twice for her country.
"I'm happy this move is finally over the line," Evans stated on the Newcastle website.
"I'm over the moon, I'm looking forward to meeting the girls, meeting the fans and showing them what I can do.
"I think it's a really exciting project to be part of and I can't wait to get going."
During her time at Liverpool, Evans made 38 appearances but featured in only one Women's Super League (WSL) match in 2026 before her exit.
She now joins a Newcastle squad that finished sixth in the second tier last season and aims to contend for promotion to the WSL in the upcoming campaign.
Additional news includes Wales striker Hughes joining Sunderland and Wales prospect Hill signing a deal with Manchester United.
