Swansea City are on the brink of signing free agent Ross Stewart after the Scotland striker's departure from Southampton. The 30-year-old left St Mary's in June after failing to agree a new contract after three years with the Saints, and he is now poised to move to the Championship club.
Stewart has four caps and was part of Scotland's squad at this summer's World Cup, where he featured as a substitute against Morocco. His expected arrival may be seen as casting further doubt over the future of Zan Vipotnik, the Championship's top scorer last season.
Swansea have already sold Liam Cullen to Leicester City this summer, leaving Vipotnik and Adam Idah as the senior forward options in Vitor Matos' squad.

Swansea are also keen on Valencia midfielder Andre Almeida, though there is work to do before a deal for the former Portugal Under-21 international is completed.
At a fans' forum at the Swansea.com Stadium on Wednesday, Matos was asked about Stewart and Almeida.

"The most important thing when we go to transfers is we try to add something that we don't have or something that is related to the quality of the players [we already have]," the Swansea head coach said.
"Of course Ross and Andre are really good players."
From Black Cats to Saints
Stewart missed a hefty chunk of the 2025-26 season due to a hamstring injury but was still productive when available. The former Sunderland player netted nine goals and registered two assists in his 27 league appearances last term.
He also scored two goals in Southampton's run to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, including the opener in the Saints' 2-1 quarter-final victory over Arsenal.
Stewart had stints with Ardeer Thistle and Kilwinning Rangers as a youngster before joining Albion Rovers in 2016.
The Irvine-born player then had spells with St Mirren, Alloa Athletic and Ross County - where he won the 2018-19 Scottish Championship and Scottish Challenge Cup - before joining Sunderland in 2021.
Stewart was prolific with the Black Cats, scoring 40 goals in 81 appearances to help the club win the EFL Trophy in 2021 and gain promotion into the Championship a year later.
His impressive form at the Stadium of Light earned him a move to Southampton in 2023, where he went on to score 12 times in 50 appearances.
The Swans have already brought in Moussa Yeo, Elijah Just, Joseph Opoku and Stephen Welsh this summer in addition to making Leo Walta's loan at the club permanent.
They have also signed Benfica left-back Tiago Parente on loan.
Randers' Ousseynou Fall Seck is another player on the Swans' list of targets, while they are also interested in strengthening in central defence before the transfer window closes.
