Paris St-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will require knee surgery following a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament sustained during his team's 4-2 Champions League victory over Barcelona on Tuesday. The 25-year-old Georgian international suffered the injury during a challenge with Xavi Espart and was unable to continue, being substituted in the 59th minute at Parc des Princes. According to BBC Sport, the club has not disclosed a specific timeline for his return to competitive action.
Kvaratskhelia was making his first start of the season in the Champions League fixture. The winger joined PSG from Napoli in January 2025 and has already contributed to the club's back-to-back Champions League title wins. This season, he had made 11 appearances for the French side before the injury ended his involvement against Barcelona.
The injury represents a significant blow to PSG's attacking options as they pursue further European success. ACL ruptures typically require lengthy rehabilitation periods, with recovery timelines often extending several months depending on the severity of the damage and the player's rehabilitation progress.
Other PSG Injuries Mount
The Barcelona match also resulted in injuries to two other key PSG players. Ousmane Dembélé limped off with a left thigh injury, while defender Marquinhos sustained damage to his right thigh. The club confirmed both players will be sidelined for a "few weeks," further depleting PSG's squad depth during a crucial period of their Champions League campaign.
PSG's Strong Start to European Defence
Despite the injury setbacks, PSG maintained their winning momentum in the competition. The hosts were level with Barcelona at 2-2 entering the final 10 minutes before scoring twice in quick succession to secure the victory. This result extended PSG's perfect record in the Champions League this season, with three wins from three matches, placing them at the top of the table as they seek to defend their continental titles.
