Manchester City have completed the acquisition of Morocco international midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille, with the transfer valued at £85.6m. The 18-year-old has committed to a five-year contract at the club, pending the completion of international clearance procedures. City's payment structure comprises an initial £81.4m with an additional £4.2m contingent on performance-related add-ons.
The signing follows a period of significant midfield departures from the Etihad Stadium. Manager Enzo Maresca's squad has undergone substantial changes in the middle of the pitch, with Rodri departing to Barcelona for £65m, Tijjani Reinders moving to Saudi Arabian club Al-Qadsiah for £52m, and Nico Gonzalez joining Newcastle United in a deal potentially worth up to £52m. These exits created the space for City to pursue a replacement of Bouaddi's profile and potential.
Bouaddi's profile was significantly raised during the recent World Cup tournament, where he featured prominently for Morocco's national team. The midfielder started in five of his country's six matches as Morocco progressed to the quarter-final stage of the competition. Prior to his international breakthrough, he had established himself as an important contributor to Lille's campaign in the French top division.
In a statement following the completion of the deal, Bouaddi expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Premier League club.
