Leicester City are in advanced talks to sign Swansea City forward Liam Cullen. The Wales international, who played under current Foxes boss Russell Martin at the Swansea.com Stadium, is expected to complete a permanent switch to League One Leicester.

Cullen has won 15 caps and scored two international goals, and he still has two years left on his contract with his boyhood club. He is now expected to move after developing through Swansea’s academy and becoming a long-serving first-team player.

How did Cullen’s Swansea career begin?

Cullen joined the Swansea academy at the age of eight and made his senior debut in August 2018, coming on in a 1-0 EFL Cup defeat by Crystal Palace under Graham Potter. He scored his first goal for the Swans in a dramatic 4-1 win over Reading on the final day of the protracted 2019-20 campaign, a result that secured Steve Cooper's men a Championship play-off place.

Across all competitions, Cullen has scored 36 goals in 194 appearances for Swansea. He has often been used in a deeper role because he has not always been a regular starting number nine, both at club level and with Wales under Craig Bellamy.

What are Swansea trying to do this summer?

Swansea are hoping to keep hold of last season's Championship top scorer Zan Vipotnik. They also hope to use former Celtic striker Adam Idah more consistently after his injury-hit debut campaign.

Vitor Matos' side have already added wingers Elijah Just and Moussa Yeo - who can also operate in an attacking midfield role - to their ranks this summer, in addition to Stephen Welsh, Joseph Opoku and Leo Walta.

What is Russell Martin’s connection to Cullen?

Cullen played under Russell Martin during Martin's two seasons as head coach at Swansea City between 2021 and 2023. That previous working relationship is a key link in Leicester's pursuit of the 27-year-old Wales forward.
