Forfar Athletic confirmed on Wednesday that defender Adam Livingstone has avoided serious injury following a collision during Tuesday's Challenge Cup match against Formartine United, which was abandoned in the second half.
The incident occurred early in the second period when Livingstone sustained a neck injury in an aerial challenge. At the time of the injury, Forfar held a 1-0 lead. Medical staff treated him on the pitch before he was transported to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee for further assessment.
What did hospital tests reveal?
X-ray examinations at Ninewells Hospital found no significant structural damage to Livingstone's neck. The club released a statement confirming the positive outcome:
"Following last night's injury, Adam was taken to Ninewells Hospital where X-ray results have not shown any major damage. Adam was kept in hospital overnight but we have been advised that, all being well, he should be allowed home later today."
What happens next for Livingstone?
Livingstone remained under observation overnight at the hospital as a precautionary measure. Subject to his continued recovery, medical staff indicated he would be discharged on Wednesday, though the club did not provide a specific timeline for his return to training or match play.
The abandonment of the Challenge Cup fixture means both Forfar and Formartine United will need to arrange a rescheduled date to complete their competition tie.
