Turner and Naalsund Join Birmingham City

Birmingham City have secured the signings of defender Millie Turner and midfielder Lisa Naalsund from Manchester United as they prepare for their return to the Women's Super League (WSL).

The duo, who revealed their engagement last month, reportedly joined Birmingham for six-figure transfer fees. Birmingham earned promotion by winning the WSL 2 title last season, ending a five-year absence from the top tier, and have been active in the transfer market.

Millie Turner's Career and Impact

Turner, aged 30, made 189 appearances over eight years at Manchester United. She was part of the squad that secured the club's first major trophy, the FA Cup, in 2024. Turner, who has been capped twice by England, is understood to have signed a three-year contract with Birmingham.

"This is where I want to be. It's an exciting project and I think there's no ceiling to what we can achieve here," Turner said.

Having progressed through the ranks at United, Turner contributed to their promotion from WSL 2 in 2019. Only Ella Toone has made more appearances for the club than Turner.

"She's someone who brings a lot of experience and quality at the highest level, but just as importantly, she's a brilliant character and a real leader," Birmingham manager Amy Merricks commented.

"We know the standards she will set every day that will have a really positive impact on this group."

Lisa Naalsund's Background and Transfer Details

Naalsund, 31, joined Manchester United in January 2023 and made 74 appearances, scoring eight goals during her tenure. She previously won consecutive league titles with Norwegian club Brann and has earned 39 caps for Norway.

"When I had chats with the club, they just gave me instantly a very good feeling about it," Naalsund said.

"When you're debating which club to go to, it's always that feeling in your stomach, and that just decides where you go.

This was the place that excited me the most and the people were really nice. It's a really good project here and I feel like the future can be quite bright."

Naalsund had one year remaining on her contract after Manchester United triggered an extension clause in January, extending her contract until 2027. Consequently, Birmingham paid a transfer fee to secure her services.

Manchester United's Transfer Activity

Manchester United have maintained a quiet transfer window so far. However, sources indicate that funds generated from player sales, including those of Turner and Naalsund, will be reinvested into strengthening the squad ahead of the next season.

Chelsea have agreed a fee for Manchester United striker Malard.
