Megan Barker Reclaims British Elite Women's Circuit Race Title
Megan Barker secured victory in the women's British National Road Championships circuit race in 2023, reclaiming her elite women's circuit race title on the second day of the National Road Championships. The event produced its second Welsh winner in succession.
Barker, aged 28 and born in Cardiff, won in a sprint finish on the Aberystwyth course, replicating her success in the same event earlier in 2023. She narrowly defeated Carys Lloyd, a teenager who will join Barker as part of Wales' team for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this summer, by less than three hundredths of a second. Scotland's Eilidh Shaw finished in third place.
The Welsh one-two finish followed the previous day's women's time trial in Lampeter, where Zoe Backstedt led an all-Welsh podium ahead of Anna Morris and her sister Elynor Backstedt.
Open Race and Upcoming Events
In the open race, Matthew Bostock claimed the title on the five-lap 1.6km circuit, finishing ahead of Jacob Bush and Thomas Portsmouth.
The championships are set to continue on Sunday with the road race championships, also taking place in Aberystwyth.
