Marc Marquez strengthened his championship aspirations by securing victory at the Aragon Grand Prix for the third consecutive year, narrowing the points deficit in his title pursuit.
The Ducati rider's triumph at MotorLand Aragon proved decisive in the championship battle, allowing him to reduce the gap between himself and points leader Jorge Martin to 19 points. Marquez, who also won Saturday's sprint race, demonstrated commanding form throughout the event.
The 33-year-old claimed his eighth victory at the Spanish circuit following a thrilling contest with Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi, who had secured pole position. In a display of racing prowess, Marquez executed a daring overtake on lap six, passing Bezzecchi at high speed in a maneuver that saw the two riders come perilously close to contact.
Following his Aragon success, Marquez accumulated 237 points in the championship standings, moving into second place overall. This advancement came at the expense of Bezzecchi, who now sits third with 232 points. Championship leader Martin, competing for Aprilia, finished fifth at Aragon and maintains 256 points.
Bezzecchi, aged 27, reflected on the intensity of his battle with Marquez during the race.
I heard his bike on turn 15 so I tried to cross the line, but when we were close, the slipstream was pushing each other very much and it was strange,the Italian rider explained.
Marc, with the experience that he has and the speed that he has, today he was unbeatable.
The final podium positions saw KTM's Pedro Acosta secure second place, with Bezzecchi completing the top three finishers. Marquez's continued success builds on his extended commitment to Ducati, having recently extended his contract through 2028, ensuring his partnership with the Italian manufacturer continues beyond the current season.
